Technical Help
How to get the right fit from Walking Shoes & Boots?
To make sure you have the right fit you need to do a few tests first,. These can be done around the house or in store
Are they the correct length? Two tests can be done to find this, one is making sure when your foot is at the back of the boot. You should lace them up so that your toes are not touching the front of the boot and you can still wiggle your toes making sure they are not squished. The other option is as your boots are unlaced push your foot right to the font, If you can get a finger down the back this is a good indication they are the correct length.
Are they the correct fit? It is not all about the right length, it is about making sure they are the correct fit as boots and shoes come in all different shapes. The main thing to remember is they should be comfortable so that your foot is held in a good secure position so there is little movement but not so much that they are pinching or uncomfortable.
When putting your boots / shoes on, make sure they are laced up fully and firmly. If you are in store walk up and down our ramp, or if at home your stairs. When walking up pay attention to your heel. Your heel should be held in the boot not riding up and down. If it does try adjusting your laces
When walking downwards, pay attention to your toes. Your foot should not be falling forward with toes touching the end. Try and force your feet forward to make sure thy are again held correctly. Pay attention to the toe box crease. If there is an excess amount of creasing then this could be either the boots are too large or too wide.
Get used to them, wear them around your home, so you no longer notice them and you are happy.
If you are unsure of any of the points above, or you feel discomfort, stop using them and you can return them in their box or give us a call for help – alternatively come back into store and we can advise you further. Providing any footwear has not been worn outside and they come back in there original box and in a resalable condition we can accept them back for exchange or refund.
How do i clean Walking Boots & Shoes?
If you have had a muddy or wet walk its best to clean your footwear as soon as possible. Generally warm water and a brush will clear off any mud and dirt. There are specialist cleaners you can use as well. Its also worth giving the insides a rinse as well to get rid of any grit that may of fallen inside .
Do not try and speed dry any footwear by putting them by a fire or radiator. This causes the outer materials to dry and crack easily. Let them dry naturally at room temperature. Maybe try putting kitchen roll or newspaper inside to help if they are saturated.
How do i Reproof Footwear?
Leather Boots or Shoes
All leather footwear needs to be cared for buy using the correct proofing and applied regularly. Leather works best when its repelling water. If the boots are soaking up moisture this can affect the internal working of the leather, which when dry causes the boots to stiffen and then leather will eventually crack. This also affects the breathability so your feet become sweaty and will cause your feet to be damp on the inside from moisture.
Regular proofing will treat the leather so moisture does not get into the boots, keep the leather from drying and cracking as well as pro long the life of the boots.
The correct product for your boots will vary so if your unsure please ask a member of staff or refer to our website. Do not use shoe polish!
Fabric Boots or Shoes
Breathable waterproof footwear is dependent on keeping moisture away from the outer fabric. If the outer fabric is absorb ing water this reduces the breathability and your feet will feel clamy and wet giving the impression of leaking.
A well looked after and proofed fabric boot will keep water away from the outside of the boot, This is called the DWR [Durable Water Repellency] and must be maintained. Applying the correct proofing will also treat any leather within the make up of a fabric boot from drying or cracking
If any footwear has not been looked after correctly this may well void any warranty in the future.
