Fixnzip Replacement Zipper Large Black Nickel

The FixnZip® is a zipper slider replacement product. When a zipper fails, it is most likely due to wear within the zipper slider itself rendering it unable to properly mesh the teeth or coils properly for a secure closure. The teeth or coils are generally in good condition; however, the usual repair solution is the removal and replacement of the entire zipper. This is generally done by a tailor and can be quite costly. In addition, the results are often less than satisfactory due to stitching variances from the original or color matching. In the case of specialty or vintage items, i.e. a WWII bomber jacket, a tailor may not want to accept the repair.

The FixnZip® is a zipper slider replacement that repairs zippers without the need for tools or sewing. It has a patented spring plate design consisting of two slider plates, a thumbscrew and spring. The slider parts are made of zinc die cast and the spring and thumbscrew of stainless steel. Prior to assembly, the sliders are plated with a bright or black nickel finish. This plating, in combination with the stainless steel parts, give the slider a noncorrosive surface for endurance of environmental conditions and water.

The FixnZip® comes in three sizes: small, medium and large. Its design enables each to fit a range of sizes as well as universally apply to teeth or coil zippers, metal or plastic. Taking just minutes, it is easy to install fixing zippers on clothing, bags, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, car and boat covers, jeep windows, wetsuits, to name but a few. It can be used on open ended (such as a jacket) or closed ended zippers and can be started anywhere on the zipper. In the case of a zipper that may be missing some teeth, the FixnZip® glides over these and realigns the remaining teeth thus restoring the functionality of the zipper.

The beauty of the FixnZip®, besides its utility and ease of use, is that it promotes reuse of items that might otherwise be discarded in a closet or end up in a landfill. In addition, the FixnZip® itself is re-usable in that it can be taken off one item and applied to another further promoting sustainability. It is easy to use in the field and should be something that households have on hand, or in their repair kits, much the same as spare batteries.

Start by checking the back of your broken zipper slider; most zippers have a size number (1-10) embossed on the back of the slider. Once you know your zipper size, our sizing chart below will determine which FixnZip® is right for you.

Small:  Sizes 1-4
Examples: pants, skirts, fine garments, cushions, clutch handbags

Medium: Sizes 5-7
Examples: jackets, sleeping bags, tents, purses, duffel bags

Large: Sizes 8-10
Examples: wetsuits, boat covers, canvas tents, heavy duty clothing, jeep windows

Measure Your Zipper

If your zipper doesn’t have a number on the back, you can simply measure the
width of the zipper teeth in millimeters or inches.

Teeth/Coil Width
1 to 4.5 mm  |  0.04 to 0.18 in = Small
5 to 7.5 mm  |  0.19 to 0.30 in = Medium
8 to 10 mm  |  0.31 to 0.40 in = Large

Fixing Open-End Zippers (Jackets, Sleeping Bags, etc.)

Open-End Zippers are most often found on jackets and sleeping bags. These zippers can be completely detached from one another and are incredibly simple to fix using the FixNZip® Replacement Zipper Slider.

Fixing Closed-End Zippers (Tents, Pants, Bags/Luggage, etc.)
Closed-End Zippers are most often found on tents, luggage/bags, or on your pants. These zippers remain connected at one end at all times, and can be particularly frustrating when broken. Using the FixNZip® Replacement Zipper Slider will get you back in working order in a flash.
