What to Expect During Your Fitting

Our process ensures we select the right boot for your specific foot mechanics and skiing profile before making any modifications.

Initial Consultation

We start with a discussion to understand your skiing background, goals, injury history, and current footwear preferences. This consultation informs our selection process and helps identify any known issues that need careful consideration.

Detailed Assessment

We measure both the length and width of your feet, assessing your arch height, foot shape, and ankle position. We also consider your height, weight, ability, and skiing style.

Boot Selection

We identify the most suitable boot model based on the initial assessment. Our priority is always to select the best-fitting boot before making any modifications.

Refinement

Once the boot is chosen, all our models include custom-mouldable inner liners, which we heat-mould to refine the fit by approximately 1–2mm.

Customisation

For tighter spots, we can adjust the outer shell of the boot through targeted stretching, creating up to 10mm of additional space in specific areas. The exact adjustment possible depends on the boot model and the area.

Footbed Discussion

We will discuss the option of custom footbeds/orthotics (£40–£60), which are recommended for most skiers to ensure consistent alignment and improved control.

What should I bring and how should I prepare?

To make the most of your 90-minute appointment, please follow this checklist:

  • Arrival: Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time slot.

  • Footwear: Wear a pair of suitable ski socks (or purchase a recommended pair in-store).

  • Legwear: Wear clothing that can be rolled up to knee height and will not interfere with the boot.

  • Existing Equipment: Bring your current ski boots or any custom footbeds/orthotics you already use.

Bring your skis if you have them.  New boots may be a different shell size, and need refitting.

Proof of Purchase: If you are booking a refit for boots bought from us, please bring your proof of purchase.

Why is a professional ski boot fitting important for comfort and performance?

A correct fit translates directly to better performance and comfort.

Control

A correctly sized boot ensures a direct, efficient transfer of energy from your leg to the ski edge, resulting in sharper, more precise turns.

Comfort

It eliminates or significantly reduces painful pressure points, blisters, and numbness, which are common issues in improperly fitted boots.

Endurance

Better alignment and reduced muscle strain allow you to ski longer and more comfortably throughout the day.

What questions should I ask the boot fitter during my ski boot fitting appointment?

Focus on alignment, fit, and future modifications:

  • "Where are the potential pressure points we need to address with stretching or moulding?"

  • "Based on my skiing ability/style, is this boot the right stiffness/flex index?"

  • "Would you recommend custom footbeds for my foot shape, and why?"

  • "What is the process for follow-up appointments if I develop hot spots after skiing?"

Fitting for Specific Skiing Levels

I'm a beginner skier when do I need my own boots?

For beginners we recommend you hire for your first week away.  Once you have decided this is going to be a regular thing, we recommend it is time to buy your own boots.

For a lucky few, hire boots fit first time, off the shelf. For most people poor fitting boots means going back again and again to get the right fit. During your ski holiday, when you should be out skiing.

Getting your own boots means they are molded to your feet, and not the previous persons. That they are chosen for your exact measurements and foot shape.  Knowing they will fit and perform on the mountain.

What to ask for: Focus on comfort and a boot that is both forgiving and provides proper support. Ask the fitter to explain the difference between a comfortable fit and a loose fit. Request a moderate flex index.  Ask about footbeds, and what benefit they have for your ability and foot shape.

As a more advanced skier, what should I request during a ski boot fitting appointment?

What to request: Your focus should be on precision and response. Ask about:

  • A stiffer flex index suitable for aggressive skiing.

  • The benefit of custom footbeds is to maximise power transfer.

  • Any necessary cuff alignment (canting) adjustments.

When should children get their first boots, and how does a kids' fitting differ?

For a family doing one or two weeks a year, with kids that are still growing we normally recommend waiting until they have been in the same shoe size for a year.  After that its a good chance they are into their full size, and can now invest in boots knowing they will have more than one trip in them.

For those who ski on artificial slopes on a regular basis, or do several weeks a year, yes, we can book fittings for children.

However we don't hold stock of children's sized boots

The process differs as we must balance the need for a precise fit now with the need to allow for growth. We focus on:

  • Safety: Ensuring proper release function.

  • Growth Space: Selecting a boot with minimal, safe space for growth, without compromising control.

  • Ability: Matching the boot stiffness to the child's weight and skiing level.

  • Please call ahead to check stock availability before booking
