Ski / Snowboard Service FAQ

Q: What is the typical turnaround time for a professional ski service?

A: Our standard service time, which is the time from drop-off to collection, is approximately two weeks. Please allow extra time during the peak winter season.

Q: Do I need to book a time slot?

A: No. We do not take appointments for the Ski and Snowboard service. Simply bring your equipment to our Blackburn King Street store workshop during opening hours. You will be given a date for when they will ready for collection.

Q: What should I bring when dropping off my gear?

Only bring the skis or snowboard requiring service. Snowboard owners must remove their bindings before dropping off the board. We do not require boots or proof of purchase.

Any bags or ties you bring will need to stay with you.

Q: When is the best time in the season for a service?

A: Early Season (September-November) is ideal for a full tune before the first trip. The end of the Season (March-April) is the best time to apply a protective storage wax.

Q: Why choose professional service instead of a DIY wax and tune?

A: Professional servicing uses precision machinery for base levelling and edge tuning that cannot be matched at home. This service ensures optimal edge grip and base glide, which are crucial for the performance and longevity of your equipment.

Q: How long will my skis be unavailable during a service?

A: Your skis will typically be out of use for the standard two-week turnaround time. We do not offer express or same-day service options.

Choosing Your Service Level

Choose Basic Service (£35) When...

Choose Regular Service (£40) When...

The base is clean with no deep scratches.

The base has deep gouges or white, dry patches.

You only need a fresh wax, and the edges are dull.

Your equipment has been unused for a year or more.

You need mid-season maintenance to replenish wax.

You see early signs of edge rust (oxidation of the metal edges).

Recommended Seasonal Service Programme

Consistent service throughout the year protects your equipment and guarantees better performance when you need it most.

Recommendation

Early Season

September – November

Inspect the base for dry, white patches and edges for dullness or rust.

Regular Service (£40) is recommended if there are signs of rust, deep scratches, or a very dry base.

Basic Service (£35) if the base is clean but edges need tuning and a fresh hot wax.

Mid-Season

December – February

Look for minor nicks in the edges (from ice or rocks) and dry patches on the base.

Basic Service (£35) or a Hot Wax treatment for standard maintenance, replenishing wax and restoring edge grip.

Upgrade to Regular Service (£40) for minor base damage.

End of Season

March – April

Focus on preparation for summer storage.

Storage Wax: We strongly recommend applying a thick layer of storage wax that is not scraped off. This protective layer prevents the base from drying out and reduces the risk of edge rust over the summer months.
