Driveaway Awnings

A drive-away awning is the best way to double your living space without losing the freedom of your van. Unlike a fixed caravan awning, these are freestanding structures that stay pitched on-site while you head out for the day. Whether you need a spot for wet gear, a kitchen area, or extra sleeping quarters, we stock a massive range from trusted brands like Vango and Outwell. Choosing the right one comes down to how you travel. If you move every day, speed is king. If you’re pitching up for a week, stability and floor plan matter most.

Adding a drive-away awning to your setup solves the age-old problem of campervan life: the need for more room versus the need to drive-away.

Air vs Pole Drive-away Awnings: Which is Best?

When choosing your setup, you'll likely decide between traditional poles or modern air beams.

    • Air Awnings: These are incredibly popular for a reason. They are fast to pitch, easy for one person to handle, and there are no metal poles to snap in high winds.

    • Poled Awnings: Usually more affordable and often have a smaller pack size and less weight. They are a solid choice if you are on a budget or don't mind a bit more assembly time.

    Drive-Away Awning FAQs

    What is a drive-away awning?

It is a freestanding tent specifically designed to connect to a vehicle. It stays standing on your pitch when you disconnect the vehicle to go exploring, keeping your gear safe and your spot reserved.

How do drive-away awnings attach to vans?

Most attach via a "beading" that slides into a rail on your van. If you don't have a rail, you can use fixing kits involving magnets, suction cups, or over-the-top straps. For the best experience, we recommend using a "Kador strip" and "Figure of 8" connector so you can detach in seconds. Learn more in our guide to drive-away awnings.
