Your footwear is the most critical component of your hiking kit. Choosing the wrong pair often results in heavy, dragging feet and painful blisters that can force you off the trail. Our collection is carefully curated to eliminate these common pain points, focusing on supportive designs that protect your joints without weighing you down.

Key Features to Consider:

Waterproof Membranes: Look for Gore-Tex (GTX) or similar waterproof hiking boots for women. These membranes keep your feet completely dry in boggy conditions while allowing trapped sweat vapour to escape.
Aggressive Traction: Outsoles from brands like Vibram feature deep, multidirectional lugs to ensure reliable grip on slick mud and wet rock.
Ankle Support: A supportive, padded collar locks your heel in place, preventing the slipping and rubbing that cause blisters.

Choosing the Right Walking Boot

For Fast & Light Hikes: Choose flexible, synthetic lightweight walking boots. They require minimal breaking in, offer excellent breathability for summer use, and reduce leg fatigue.
For Rugged Terrain: Opt for stiffer, traditional leather boots if you are carrying a heavy rucksack over challenging, uneven ground, as they offer maximum ankle support and durability against abrasive rocks.

Expert Maintenance Tip: Never dry your walking boots on a radiator or near an open fire. Extreme direct heat causes leather to crack and can melt the adhesives holding the soles together. Instead, remove the insoles, stuff the boots with newspaper, and let them dry naturally at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should women's walking boots fit?

They should feel snug around the heel and midfoot to prevent any lifting as you walk - heel lift is the primary cause of blisters. However, you need about a thumb's width of space at the front of the toe box to prevent your toes from repeatedly striking the front of the boot during steep descents. Can I wear running shoes for hiking?

While standard running shoes are comfortable, they lack the stiff soles needed to protect the soles of your feet from jagged rocks and offer no ankle support. If you prefer a lower cut, opt for dedicated walking shoes rather than standard trainers.

Walking boots vs walking shoes: Which is best?

Walking boots provide crucial ankle support and deeper waterproofing, making them essential for uneven ground, carrying heavy rucksacks, or winter hiking. Walking shoes are lighter and offer more freedom of movement, making them perfect for well-maintained, flat paths in dry summer weather.
