Choosing your backpacking tent

When searching for a backpacking tent, several key factors should be taken into consideration. First, consider how many people it needs to sleep. Our range includes solo shelters, ideal for minimalist trekkers, as well as comfortable options for two, three, and four people. The listed capacity often means a snug fit, so if you like a bit more room for you and your gear, consider sizing up. Ventilation is also crucial. Look for tents with good mesh panels and multiple vents to help reduce condensation and keep the air circulating.

How heavy should a backpacking tent be?

Generally, a good backpacking tent for solo use will weigh under 1.5 kg, with many ultralight options weighing well under 1 kg. For a two-person backpacking tent, aim for something under 2.5 kg if you're splitting the load. While lighter is often better for long distances, be mindful that cutting weight can sometimes mean thinner fabrics or fewer features. It's about finding a balance between a comfortable carry and a robust shelter that can withstand the weather.
