The Alto TR2 Plus semi-freestanding tent provides maximum liveability for the ultralight backpackers who are active right to the ends of shoulder seasons.

Vertical walls, a tall, oversized door and the same functional details as the standard Alto combine with materials that will keep you warm and dry in windier and wetter conditions. Whenever you camp, you’ll have more usable space, better ventilation and more versatility than any other ultra-lightweight tent – because with good design, ‘saving weight’ doesn’t mean ‘cutting corners’.

Features

  • Made for 3+ Seasons with a fabric inner tent which keeps out cold drafts. Plus a higher-specification waterproof floor, suitable for the wetter ground conditions.
  • Tension Ridge raises the tent’s shape upwards for more usable head-and-shoulder space and creates truly higher doors for easier entry and more vestibule storage.
  • Colour-coded ultra-strong lightweight DAC NSL poleset and quick connect pole feet make for easy setup.
  • Made for longevity and to be waterproof by using premium materials including DAC poles, YKK zippers, 7-series aluminium hardware and seam-taped PeU-coated rainfly.
  • FairShare storage system: tent packs into 3 stuff sacks to split the load. After set-up, stuff sacks transform into gear storage pockets.
  • Lightbar: add a headlamp and secure the tent pole storage sack to the apex of the tent for soft even illumination.
  • Rainfly can be setup first for a dry setup and takedown.
  • Includes 9 Ground Control Light Tent Pegs and 4 removable Ground Control Guy Lines with custom attachment toggles.
  • To extend the life of your tent floor we recommend using a Sea to Summit footprint - sold separately.

Construction & Materials

  • The 15 cm deep 20D nylon tub floor is rated to 2500mm hydrostatic head – ideal for wet and boggy conditions.
  • Lightweight 20D ripstop nylon inner tent fabric keeps out drafts and spindrift.
  • Silicone / Polyether Polyurethane-coated 15D nylon rainfly fabric provides long-lasting waterproof performance.
  • The poles of the Tension Ridge are swept upwards – not angled downwards as is common in tents. This raises the tent’s shape, providing significantly more liveable space.
  • Apex Vent - at the highest point of the tent, this oversized vent efficiently expels warm air to prevent condensation and can be easily zipped shut from inside the tent.
  • Baseline Vents allow you to control airflow and effectively manage humidity and condensation in wet conditions without letting the rain in.
  • Quick Connect Foot is a beautifully designed, machined aluminium clip that attaches the pole and the inner foot with ease and is stronger than plastic buckles that can break.

Technical Help
What Size Tent Do I Need?

Tent capacities (e.g., "4-man") indicate the absolute maximum sleeping space and do not account for luggage or living comfort. When choosing a size, consider the following:

  • The number of sleepers: How many people are in each room?
  • Your bed size: A standard double airbed takes up the space of about three sleeping bags.
  • Storage space: Factor in the extra room you will need for clothing, bags, and gear.

Our suggestion: For a family of 4, we highly recommend a 6+ berth tent to ensure comfortable living and storage space. Read our full guide to choosing the right tent.

Air Tents vs. Poled Tents: Which Should I Choose?

Both have distinct advantages depending on your camping style.

  • Air tents (inflatable): Extremely fast and easy to pitch, even for one person. They perform brilliantly in high winds because the beams flex rather than snap. They are generally heavier and more expensive.
  • Poled tents: The traditional, budget-friendly option. They have a lighter pack weight and smaller pack size, making them easier to transport, but they take longer to pitch.
What Does Hydrostatic Head (HH) Mean?

Hydrostatic Head is a way of measuring how waterproof a tent is. It indicates how many millimetres (mm) of water can pool on the fabric before it starts to seep through.

  • 1,500mm: The minimum legal requirement to be called "waterproof" (best for light summer showers).
  • 3,000 mm-4,000 mm: The standard for most quality family tents, easily handling heavy UK rain.
  • 5,000mm+: Premium waterproofing for extreme weather and longer lifespans.
What Do Tent Seasons Mean?

Tent season ratings guide you on what weather conditions the tent is designed to withstand.

  • 1-season: Very lightweight, meant for warm summer nights and light showers (often used for festivals).
  • 2-season: Ideal for late spring to early autumn in generally fair weather.
  • 3-season: Designed for spring through autumn, capable of handling heavy rain and strong winds. (Most family tents fall here).
  • 4-season: Built for year-round use, including harsh winter weather and snow.
Do Darkened or Blackout Bedrooms Actually Work?

Yes! Many of our tents feature darkened fabrics in the sleeping areas.

  • Better sleep: They significantly reduce early morning light, helping you (and importantly, the kids) sleep past sunrise.
  • Temperature control: True blackout fabric can also help regulate temperature, keeping the bedroom cooler during the day and warmer at night.
What is a Tent Footprint, and Do I Need One?

A tent footprint is a custom-sized groundsheet that goes underneath your tent. While not strictly mandatory, we highly recommend them to protect your investment.

  • Protection: It guards your tent’s sewn-in groundsheet against sharp rocks, thorns, and rough terrain.
  • Easier packing: When it is time to go home, the footprint gets muddy instead of the bottom of your tent, making packing up much cleaner.
  • Warmth: It adds an extra layer of insulation against the cold ground.
Does The Tent Come With Everything I Need To Pitch It?

Yes, all our tents come ready to pitch right out of the box.

  • Poled tents: Include the tent, poles, standard pegs, guylines, and a carry bag.
  • Air tents: Include the tent, a manual hand pump, standard pegs, guylines, and a carry bag.

Pro Tip: While the included pegs are great for standard grass, we always recommend buying a set of heavy-duty Hard Ground Pegs if you are camping on rocky or hardpack soil. Shop our tent pegs and mallets here.
